With so many different social media platforms nowadays you can promote yourself or keep in touch with others on so many different levels, but which ones should you be using for what?

We are going to take a brief look at the ones which you all probably already have.

LinkedIn – The more professional out of the bunch and maybe the most neglected too. You should update your work regularly and always keep your invites on a more professional level as you never know, your next opportunity could be reading.

Snap chat- Snap chat is good amongst friends. There is more opportunity to post videos or pictures you don’t want everyone to see on Facebook, but please keep your videos to under 1 minute. No one can watch for to long on any funny situations.

Facebook-Facebook is great for keeping in touch. Don’t be fooled by your privacy settings everyone still has a way of seeing everything you post.

Instagram- This is a great tool to promote your work, holidays, pets, or even yourself. Instagram has no privacy so make sure what you put out there is for the whole world to see.

With so many more out there make sure you know which one is right for what post.

Interior Basics

Changing your rooms look and feel doesn’t have to mean you need to refurnish everything costing you thousands. Simple tips can help the process become quick and simple and painless to the pockets.

Changing the feel with colours

Take the family room for example, you can pick any room in house and apply the same tricks. Firstly take a good look around the room and pick out colours. Weather it is in cushions on the couches in a rug, write them down.
Next go to your local paint shop and find a paint colour that is close to the colour you chose from the room, and then pick one wall to apply it too. This creates the wall as the main feature wall in the room. Already the room looks and feels amazing and refreshing as it brightens up your home. After you have the colour add a little something extra by selecting a piece of art to hang on the feature wall, This adds a more dramatic finish to the room. You can find great wall art for all rooms on the Urban road website including some of my favorites in the Sanctuary painting selection.

Not everyone can paint the room and give themselves feature walls especially if you’re renting. Most of the time the rooms can be left feeling tired and boring. In this case you can still change the aesthetics of the room by adding a few bold changes that can leave you feeling excited.

Start by adding a decorative rug to the floor. The rug collection large indoors printed rugs a perfect for brighten up the room and hiding the stained rented carpet we have all come to see time to time. Be bold be creative choose a rug that is patterned to grab you and friends attention first every time you enter the room, this will help you forget about everything still being the same and feel great at the same time. If your choosing living areas to make over why not add in some new cushions to go with the new look or even an ottoman which you can use to put you feet up as relax in your new room.

Changing the feel with patterns

When adding vibrant patterns to your home, you don’t have feel threatened by the loud colourfull rugs you always admire when flipping through catalogues. Be daring be bold with your look this spring.
If it’s the uncertainty of not knowing if your style is going to suit your room then stick to something less permanent like a new rug cushions for your sofa. Still unsure on weather or not it would suit your space we have some useful tips to help you pick the best patterns for your room.
For small rooms you don’t want to make the room feel smaller. Try floral or trellis patterns, this will help make your room look larger and more spacious making you feel motivated. Try adding colour, purple and red are good stimulating colours, which naturally boost your energy levels.
When shopping for a pattern for a larger room, you don’t want to make the room look and feel cold and empty, so be daring and add a bold more dramatic pattern. This could be either through wallpaper on a feature wall or even a rug on the floor. If your going for an all over change try something with yellow or green which are proven to make you feel happier when your just around them. My favourite is from Horizons rug collection called Baraka

Changing the feel with a feature art piece

No matter what the room you can never go wrong with a some funky art work to brighten up the room.
If you are looking to spice up the feel of the living area with large wall space and worried that the piece would look out of place in the space then try adding 2 or 3 in a sequence. They don’t have to be different pieces you can multiply the same print to make a more dramatic effect. My favorite this Summer  is PHaze  from the abstract collection

If you feel that the room has not enough space for a bright and cheerful painting then stop thinking and take the plunge today. No matter the space art work can change and enhance any space big or small.

Rebecca Thompson

Rebecca Thompson is an iconic fashion designer in Melbourne, having dressed celebrities such as Chrissie Swan, Emma Freedman, Giaan Rooney and Paris Hilton. Since launching in 2000 she has become one of Australia’s premier luxury fashion labels, not to mention her new Rebecca Thompson e-boutique. This is now featuring in her latest collections offering a gorgeous mix of signature related separates, unique dressed for every season that is simply timeless and classic. In all her hard work she is one who took her own path and chose not to retail, as her label has been sold in boutiques for thirteen years with her own online shop.
Is it her vivacious, charismatic nature as described by others, or is it the fact that she describes herself as colourful, confident and happy person that makes her want to make her shopping collection a pleasurable and easy experience .
She got her first job as an agent, selling other people’s labels and working in production. She then moved into other various roles which helped her career progress and was inspired to start her own label through freelance design. This inspiration was from doing a lot of work in India which gave her a lot of knowledge, as her favourite places to visit she mentions is Sri Lanka. Her unique perception of what she loves in fashion is the craziness of the woman’s dresses she admires. They were a look of the eighties and maybe made up of the wrong prints, but put together she mentions is her inspiration for what she believes are beautiful. Is this where she gets her unique and magical character from, in embracing what stands out and ideas that she creates. A wow factor is definitely the way her designs comes across.
Rebecca Thompson is not only full of inspiration but also has lived to be inspired by her hard work and persistence to succeed. As there was a time when younger she sent out three hundred and fifty resumes for one week for jobs in fashion, this is a determined woman! Even at one time she felt out of her depth being compared to other students when undertaking courses in fashion, but as the years progressed she went on her own direction not concentrating on current trends. As her ideas and what she wanted to achieve through her customers was the importance of value for money and that her fashion can be worn in many ways. It also makes the job a lot easier when you enjoy what you are doing, as she loves having an idea and then converting it into a real piece as that is her most satisfying thing in her world. As her process is to look at fashion forecasts through to street level (what people are wearing) then she establishes the idea of how it can be converted to wearable pieces. With an incredible eye for detail, each of Rebecca Thompson piece embodies a relaxed boho glamour recognisable in any corner of the globe. Silk kaftans, bejewelled and sequined detailing and hand-embroided bold colours, make every day glamourous, where each distinct signature style will become an obvious wardrobe favourite. Timeless and classic, you will continue to reinvest in gorgeous Rebecca Thompson pieces to add to your collection. Stand out and make a statement or pair back your basics with stunning separates as magically her fashion statement is one to invest in.
In this time now she hopes she is in the same position but better, as she has had fantastic exposure and would love to go back selling internationally. As why wouldn’t she when Paris Hilton is wearing her stuff, as she loves the idea of her label and her name being known. When asked what her favourite designers were and why right now she loves Eastern Pearson what he did at the Mercedes-Benz Fashion Festival. As not necessarily the brands that she loves but more of the concepts and designs that blow her mind. She also mentions the undiscovered designers in India who are designing big labels.
In her spare time you will find Rebecca Thompson in Melbourne as she describes as a pretty place, and loves the coffee here. She also mentions there’s nothing like time spent with her girlfriends for a nice dinner.
She is not only lives through inspiration from hard work and persistence, but believes that to be happy and successful a woman should believe in and love what you she does. As believes in getting rid of negatives from your life and embrace all that you love, and with a little bit of hard work you can get there!
